The Mother Nature

On the morning of third day of the lockdown, after the overnight drizzling rain, when the sun appeared from behind the thick curtain of clouds, I took a jute carry bag and wearing the protective mask, walked towards the Mother Dairy outlet to fetch our daily requirement of milk.
The road inside the residential complex looked completely deserted. Most Delhiites seem to be obeying the precautionary measures ordered by the Government and staying inside their houses.
My neighbour’s cat was walking freely without fear of speeding cars & bikes. The entire surrounding was very silent with no loud noices of roaring aeroplanes, rolling tyres of loaded trucks, earbreaking horns of vehicles, chasing cars & bikes, no commercial air conditioners or generators working, no loud music from shops or fitness centres outside the residential complex.
For a change, I could hear the two year old daughter of my neighbour talking to her grandmother, something which I never ever noticed before due to the loud noises. Just putting a few steps ahead, I felt like I am walking through some national parks. Peacocks on the road and garden, parrots sitting on the branch of trees engaged in sweet talks, the singing Koel kuckoo and Nightingale, grunting sound of Pigeons, couple of Squirrels were playing running and jumping from tree to tree and chirping.
It took me back to my childhood days. My grandparents used to live in big old house true to the traditional massive structures made of bricks, wood and tiles, surrounded by estate full of mango trees, coconut trees, banana plants, other trees of jackfruit, jamun and widespread paddy fields. After lunch when grandfather retire to bedroom for a quick nap, myself & Ammamma ( I called Gramdmother so) go to the backside of the house and she keep herself busy in some or the other work. At that time, to keep me occupied, she used to ask me to mimick the sounds of birds like koel’s “cuckoo” sound or squirrel’s “chirping” sound or “Ka Ka” of the crow.. Imitating the Koel’s cuckoo was my favourite and when the frequency matches the koel’s cuckoo, suddenly koel stop cuckooing, by then Squirrel’s start taking their turn making the Chirping noise. Grandma used to tell me the squirrels always takes care of the birds sitting on the trees by making the chirping sound to alert them when someone approaches or climp the trees.
The twenty one day lockdown in India would undoubtedly bring the nature so happy that there is no noice or air pollution, trees are happy to have the company of cheerful birds. When the humans abuse the nature, the nature punish the humans..
If we survive this period, let’s take an oath to help the nature survive.. The nature was here before we were born, it is here and it will continue to be here forever.. Only humans go back to where they came from after a short span of life unlike the nature, which is eternal.
